The Equatoguinean Football Federation announced this week that 34-year-old Emilio Nsue will not play for the national team until a resolution is reached.
The Spain-born international, who plays as a right-back for third-tier Spanish club FC Intercity, has been suspended for "serious indiscipline", as announced by the FA.
Although they did not reveal exactly what Nsue did, they did elaborate further by saying the experienced player was involved in "several episodes of serious indiscipline, before and after participating in the National Seleccion in the 34th Edition of the Africa Cup of Nations".
The Equatorial Guinean claimed the AFCON Golden Boot on Sunday, in a ceremony following Ivory Coast's 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final, after he scored five goals at the tournament.
His teammate, Ivan Salvado, has also been suspended after being involved in an incident that led to an intervention from Ivorian police.
