South African forward Percy Tau was named on the bench as coach Marcel Koller opted to start Anthony Modeste in the attack for the second leg.

The defending African champions came into the clash with a 1-0 lead from the first leg a week ago and also had an unbeaten home record in the competition this campaign.

Neither side would be able to find the breakthrough in the first half, much to the disappointment of the Tanzanian giants who desperately needed to get on the score-sheet.

However, Al Ahly found the breakthrough two minutes after the break when Amr El Solia found the back of the net with his first goal in the competition.

The hosts had to wait until second-half stoppage time for another goal after being awarded a penalty, which Kahraba converted for his second goal in the tie.

With Mamelodi Sundowns overcoming Young Africans on penalties, there are no more Tanzanian sides left in the competition.

The Egyptian Red Devils will face the winner between Congolese giants TP Mazembe and Petro du Luanda, who face off their in second -leg quarter-final on Saturday.
