CAF president Patrice Motsepe has revealed the staggering millions the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations made for African football's governing body and its member associations.

The continental showpiece that was held in the Ivory Coast earlier this year was certainly a success on the pitch as fans across the globe bore witness to a record number of goals being scored at the 34th edition of the competition.
There were 119 strikes scored in west Africa and that, coupled with the plentiful late drama that was on show, appears to indicate that Motsepe stayed true to his word when he claimed it would be the most entertaining edition of the tournament ever.

It was, however, not only a success on the pitch, but off it too. For this iteration of AFCON, CAF claim to have secured 17 sponsors, an improvement of 10 on the previous edition, and also managed to collaborate with a total of 110 TV partners.
CAF also state that there was a commercial revenue increase of 26 percent from the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon as all these fiscal factors combined to have a significant profit being made from hosting the tournament.

The South African executive has been a massive advocate for more money being pumped into African football so the generation of $80 million (R1.5 billion) from AFCON bodes well for the potential of African football its marketability.
