After Manchester United poached their new CEO from Manchester City, Pep Guardiola seemed to fire shots at the struggling Red Devils following the move.

With incoming co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's tenure at the 20-time English champions to begin next month, changes have already been made in the boardroom.

Omar Berrada left the Citizens, whom he had worked for as a chief operating officer before being promoted to chief of football operations officer of the City Football Group in 2020, after nearly a decade to become United's chief executive officer last week.

While a lot of City's success has been attributed to the club's organised and structured work behind the scenes, Guardiola has appeared to suggest that Berrada's appointment alone will not get United back to where they once were.

"De Bruyne will play here. Erling Haaland will play here, so in the end it's not that simple like that," he said, according to Caught Offside

"Maybe United thinks with this person everything is going to change. Congratulations. I don't know if this is going to happen.

"I don't know if (by) doing this (clicks his fingers) everything is going to be sorted and it works.

"If it does happen, then oh my god they have to make a stand for Omar Berrada in the future because he’d deserve it."

In announcing Berrada's arrival, whose start date is still to be confirmed, United said on their website: "The Club is determined to put football and performance on the pitch back at the heart of everything we do. Omar's appointment represents the first step on this journey.

"As one of the most experienced football executives at the top of European football, Omar brings a wealth of football and commercial expertise, with a proven record of successful leadership and a passion to help lead change across the Club.
