In a recent interview, a spokesperson for INEOS chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly revealed the 70-year-old's intention to put through a formal offer to purchase the Red Devils from the Glazers.
The billionaire has been mentioned among the names eager to complete a takeover of the English giants many times over the past year, with the club's current owners putting United up for sale in November 2021.
Ratcliffe, who is already involved in football after INEOS purchased French club Nice in 2019, has now stepped up his interest, as confirmed by a spokesperson.
"We have formally put ourselves into the process of bidding," they told Times Sport.
The businessman is believed to be worth a staggering £12.5 billion (R262 billion), with United's Glazer family reportedly looking to sell the club for about £5 billion (R104 billion).
