There has been an update on Mohamed Salah's future at Liverpool.

With Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, there has been an update on Mohamed Salah's future at the six-time UEFA Champions League winners.

The 31-year-old has less than 18 months on his deal at the Reds and has, in the past, been linked with a switch to the Saudi Pro League.

At the start of the 2023/24 campaign, rumours suggested SPL champions Al Ittihad had significant offers for Salah's signature rejected by Liverpool, with it believed the Middle East could still be where the winger ends up in the near future.

However, a new report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claims Barcelona are big admirers of the Egypt international, who is among the highest-paid players in England.

The Catalan giants' financial situation makes it unlikely they will pursue the former Chelsea and Roma man, or that they would be able to afford to pay him close to what he currently earns.

Barcelona, though, are said to view Salah as the "the best option" for what they are looking for despite a transfer being unrealistic at this time.

Salah is still recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for Egypt at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in their third group match and round of 16 encounter against DR Congo.

The winger caused controversy in his home country when he decided to get treatment at Liverpool, which saw him miss the Pharaohs' elimination from the competition.

It is believed he could be back in action for the Reds on Saturday against Brentford in the Premier League, although he is only expected to be named among the substitutes.
