With their entry into the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup now confirmed, Mamelodi Sundowns are guaranteed to pocket $50 million (±R1 Billion) and now Soccer Laduma looks at what this windfall could do for the Brazilians, who continue to chase local and continental dominance.

Sundowns’ endeavours over the last seven seasons where they have obliterated everything from a domestic perspective has paid off.

The Brazilians will rub shoulders with the world’s elite football clubs in the United States of America next year as one of Africa’s four representatives, having qualified by virtue of the ranking system in FIFA’s revamped competition.

The financial rewards that come with it are quite significant as Sundowns will receive R1 billion in their already deep pockets.

With the club already flexing their financial muscle by bringing in players like Marcelo Allende, Mathias Esquivel, and Lucas Ribeiro Costa for fees reported to be in the millions, the added kitty could see Downs further strengthen their squad.

Sundowns have already tapped into markets such as Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Brazil – and could stretch this even further with over R250 million each for the next four seasons.

The club are already a part of the Analytics FC platform, which is how Allende was signed, and could expand their reach even further.

Senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi eluded last year how Sundowns missed out on the likes of Vinicius Junior and Luiz Diaz of Liverpool, though their added financial muscle could well see them compete with some of the strongest teams worldwide for upcoming football prospects.

What does it mean for their rivals in the PSL? Well, they could be staring at potentially another decade of dominance by Sundowns, having already lagged behind them in the last eight years.

Though Sundowns’ healthy financial state could bode well for some of their local rivals as they continue to pay premium prices for other PSL star players, helping clubs to remain financially viable in the process.
