Orlando Pirates boosted their hopes finishing second in the DStv Premiership with a 2-0 win over Chippa United on Wednesday evening.

Buccaneers coach Jose Riveiro made one change from the Nedbank Cup win over the weekend, as club captain Innocent Maela came in for Deon Hotto who went off injured, while Chippa recalled Elmo Kambindu in place of the suspended Eva Nga.

The home side took control from the onset in the first half and had a lot of joy down the right flank, with Monyane passing up a good chance to score on 15 minutes by firing wide with only Stanley Nwabali to beat.

The Chilli Boys, meanwhile, had no answer for the Soweto giants' dominance and provided no real threat on the counter unlike Saturday's meeting in the Nedbank Cup.

The Buccaneers made their dominance count ten minutes before the halftime break when the lively Monyane broke into the box before picking out Tshegofatso Mabasa for the simple finish in the six-yard area.

The Buccaneers top scorer was not done there as he was afforded the chance to double the lead minutes later after Baraka Gamba Majogoro handled in the box. Mabasa stepped up and made no mistake from 12 yards to double the lead.

The Chilli Boys started seeing a bit more of the ball in the second but there was no conviction in their attempts find a goal, as the Buccaneers defence remained water-tight.

The home side opted to re-shuffle the pack for the final 20 minutes as Lesedi Kapinga and Olisa Ndah came in for Kabelo Dlamini and Thabiso Sesane.

Unfortunately for the visitors, they were unable to fashion any openings in the latter stages of the second half and now miss the chance to climb into the top eight.

With Stellenbosch dropping points against AmaZulu, Pirates have now moved to within in a point of the final Champions League spot with three games left in the campaign.

Here's how they lined up:

Orlando Pirates: Chaine, Maela, Xoki, Sesane, Monyane, Mbatha, Makhaula, Maswanganyi, Dlamini, Mofokeng, Mabasa
